ABOUT

STAR SINGERS

STAR SINGERS is the first of its kind to hit Northern Ireland.

STAR SINGERS is all about fun, it appeals to both men and women, and members enjoy the experience of performing live, three times each year in a variety of local venues.

STAR SINGERS is part of a growing movement of people that want to sing together for sheer enjoyment. Some choir members haven’t sung for years but find the STAR SINGERS choir is a very safe place to revive and develop their singing skills guided by experienced coaches. It’s also the perfect place for anyone who simply enjoys singing. No past experience is necessary and you don’t need to be able to read music.

STAR SINGERS sing great songs from ABBA, Queen, the Mamas and Papas, Killer, The Beatles and the Beach Boys… the list goes on….

Holywood STAR SINGERS has performed at the Holywood Music Festival, The Titanic Building , Campbell College and The Belfast Waterfront Hall. In December 2012, we were joined by the new Bangor STAR SINGERS choir at The Royal Belfast Golf Club.

Remember, all that’s required is a desire to enjoy singing great hits with a group of fellow enthusiasts and share in the fun and exhilaration of singing as a group.

We’re looking forward to some great events in the New Year so forget the X Factor, STAR SINGERS is on your doorstep, ready to welcome you all.

Now, we’d like to introduce our Star Singers music directors Peter and Ken who are dedicated to brightening up your Monday evenings singing great hits and having loads of fun.

We’d also say hello to Malcolm Neale, our Star Singers Manager.

Peter Millar

Music Director Holywood

Peter was educated at RBAI in Belfast. During this time he played guitar, started to write songs and sang with some like-minded friends in several bands. One of these became “Hooker” - initially an acoustic, country-folk trio, which evolved over some thirty years into a bluesy five-piece rock band. He then attended Stranmillis College, where he was heavily involved in the many college productions of music and theatre. From there he graduated with a Bachelor of Education in English and Dramatic Art and went on to teach in a Belfast high school, where he was responsible for producing a series of musicals.

He is a member of Phillip & James Parish Church Choir in Holywood. During concerts, in which the choir collaborated with members of the Ulster Orchestra and choral group "Melisma", who got together with him to form “Eclection” - an exciting musical venture that combines the many talents of the musicians involved.

Ken Perry

Musical Director Bangor

Ken is a teacher at Dundonald High School. An ex-International motorcyclist, he graduated from the University of Ulster, Jordanstown, with a degree in Music before completing a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of Ulster, Coleraine.

Ken has just been appointed Head Master at Dundonald High School! We would like to wish Ken every success for this most challenging task. Well don Ken!

During his time teaching Ken has been involved in the UTV School Choir of the Year competition, organising musical events and joint community projects in the Dundonald area, including the show ‘Anything Goes’ and playing in the Dundonald Community Band.

Malcolm Neale

Star Singers Manager

After three years studying Piano and Percussion at the Royal College of Music in London, Malcolm began his career in 1975 as Timpanist/Percussionist in the Belfast BBC Northern Ireland Orchestra.

Malcolm joined the Ulster Orchestra in 1980 as Principal Percussionist until 2005 when he became founding Joint chief Executive ofCamerata Ireland, the pan-Ireland chamber orchestra with Barry Douglas , the Belfast born international pianist.

An exciting time was spent touring with the orchestra to over twenty countries including China, the USA and Europe. Malcolm was also responsible for directing the now established and successful Camerata Ireland International Festival at the Clandeboye Estate in Bangor.

As well as mamging Star Singers, Malcolm is now Director of Music Events Direct, which organises many and various musical groups and concerts throughout Northern Ireland.

Malcolm is very excited to be involved with Star Singers, especially for the opportunity for anybody to ‘have fun’ and ‘have a go’ singing rock in a choir, without having to read music or having to audition.
